One Fatality in Semi-Truck Collision Near Arizona-New Mexico Border

SANDERS, Arizona — At least one person was killed in an incident involving semi-trucks on a roadway near the Arizona-New Mexico border early Friday.

According to the Department of Public Safety, at about 3 a.m., a semi-truck sideswiped another semi traveling westbound on Interstate 40 east of Sanders, about 20 miles from the New Mexico border.

According to authorities, the at-fault vehicle lost control and crashed into the overpass. The truck burst into flames and was left hanging from the overpass. Authorities verified that the driver was deceased.

One more driver was transported to the hospital.

The freeway remains closed, with no expected time of reopening. Drivers should anticipate delays and seek other routes.
