Retired FBI Agent Identified as Victim in Fatal Shooting at El Paso High School

His family said that the guy who was killed in El Paso, Texas, during a fight with a high school police officer was a retired FBI agent.

Cordero’s brother Marco Cordero told Channel 9-KTSM that Julio Cordero, 56, was a father of four and a respected former FBI agent whose mental health had been getting worse since he retired.

The El Paso Division of the FBI stated that Cordero worked for the FBI as a special agent from 1996 to 2019. “One of our own has died, and we are sad about it,” spokesman Special Agent Jeanette Harper said.

In 2007, the FBI raided the El Paso County Courthouse as part of Operation Poisoned Pawns, an investigation into public corruption. Cordero was in charge of the investigation, which led to the conviction of dozens of people, including three former county judges, county commissioners, school board members, and businesspeople.

“He was a well-liked police officer in the city.” According to Marco Cordero, his brother’s mental health started to get worse after a depressed man jumped in front of his car and died in 2014. “He made a big difference,” he told KTSM. The accident brought back memories of a crash in 1993 that killed his sister.

Cordero was shot and killed by an El Paso Independent School District police officer before 6 a.m. Thursday. It was said that Cordero was breaking windows at Franklin High School before classes started, and his family said that his son is a senior there.

The guy who was shot and killed on campus has not been named by the school district or the El Paso Police Department. Information about the fight has not been made public.

The El Paso Police Department and the Texas Rangers are looking into the shooting, as they do with all police killings that end in death. The school district is also looking into the case from an official point of view.
